Effective Customer Communication Strategy

Are you finding it difficult to get the right customers?
Are you frequently losing customers to your competition?
Do you think your potential and existing customers understand your product(s) or service offering(s)?

We see new businesses spring up daily, therefore, making the competition stiff.
If your customers do not know nor understand what you're selling, then you're at a disadvantage.

One way to stay relevant and ahead of the game is effective communication
This will help you skyrocket your business, stamp your brand presence, attract and retain the right customers.

Here are some rockstar customer-communication tips your business needs:
  • Define your business value proposition: A business value proposition simply answers the most crucial question, "why should a customer choose your product or service (over others)?". Defining your value proposition is the foundation of effective communication to your potential and current customers. This will guide your every business move. It is easy to spot a business that hasn't done the groundwork. It shows in their operations, customer experience, and the ambiguous communication often seen in adverts, social media, etc.
  • Define your business brand: Your business brand is your business identity. How do you want to be known/perceived by your customers?. Your business brand doesn't only focus on logos, colours, fonts, slogans, etc. It also covers your business communication style. Is it formal, semiformal or informal, modern or traditional, uptight or fun, personal or professional? etc. Whatever you decide, ensure your business brand is authentic and aligned with your value proposition.
  • Define your target market: Your target market is a particular group of people your business has decided to sell your products or services to. You need to define your market by these metrics: gender, age, geographic location, race, etc. Your target market also determines your business communication style. E.g. if your target market age demographic is between the ages of 58 - 67 years old, it will be inappropriate to use slang while communicating with them.
  • Ensure your business (clearly) speaks your value proposition and brand to your target market at all times: Be it your staff, social media content, radio jingle, website, newspaper publication, etc. Everybody and everything concerning your business must speak the same language. It should be easy for your customers to identify and understand your brand, product or service and its value through your communication. You have the power to navigate your customer perception/narrative via effective communication. Do not underestimate the dangers of poor communication and the possible domino effect on your business.
  • When communicating with your customers (in real-time or offline), be respectful, empathetic, present, honest and responsive. Remember, your customers are you walking billboards ready to share their experience with your business to any and everyone that cares to listen. Why not make it the best billboard anyone has ever seen? 😉
